Scrive Mike King: "Reel Recordings is honoured to present legendary British saxophonist Trevor Watts with his recording of the all-star collective Splinters. Assembled by drummers John Stevens and Phil Seamen in 1972, Splinters united tenor giant Tubby Hayes, altoist Trevor Watts, trumpeter Kenny Wheeler, pianist Stan Tracey, bassist Jeff Clyne with Stevens and Seamen’ volcanic polyrhythm. Theirs is spontaneous music making summoning each special musical personality to speak boldly and clearly in the spirit the great American tradition of Modern Jazz. “Split the Difference” is a carefully remastered concert recording of Splinters public debut at London’s 100 Club and is destined for historical celebration, internationally.
Reel Recordings has remastered two extended sets which comprise this full length compact disc, including intimate concert photos by Jak Kilby and personal reflections from Trevor Watts. After a thirty-seven year wait, Splinters' “Split the Difference” is released in a distinguished digipak edition in May 2009."
